MCT announces season and seeks artistic staff
Muskegon Civic Theatre is pleased to announce its 2013-2014 Season. The season will be presented at the Frauenthal Center for the Performing Arts. We are seeking qualified individuals to fill artistic staff positions for these productions. All positions are currently available, and some positions receive a stipend. Those who are interested in directing, stage management, and scenic, lighting, sound, costume, and makeup design as well as properties, set dressing, and scenic painting are asked to express their interest in writing to Kirk Wahamaki, the Artistic Director of Muskegon Civic Theatre as soon as possible and no later than May 30, 2013. The 2013-2014 Season includes the following productions:
The Great American Trailer Park Musical music and lyrics by David Nehls, book by Betsy Kelso in the Beardsley Theater. There’s a new tenant at Armadillo Acres—and she’s wreaking havoc all over Florida’s most exclusive trailer park! When Pippi, the stripper on the run, comes between the Dr. Phil loving, agoraphobic Jeannie and her tollbooth collector husband, Norbert—the storms begin to brew. This melodic love triangle combines hilarious songs and a familiar story of love and betrayal with twists and turns along the way and a Greek chorus to boot! The lively score ranges from rockabilly to country to pop with songs such as This Side of the Tracks, Flushed Downthe Pipes, and Storm’s A-Brewin’. This hilarious homage to the stereotypical denizens of Armadillo Acresis, as critic, Stacy Davies, puts it, “…a welcome breath of fresh Febreze!” This show will audition July 21, 22 with call backs on July 24, 2013. Production dates are September 20, 21, 22, 26, 27, 28, 29 and October 3, 4, 5, 2013.
The Game’s Afoot or Holmes for the Holidays by Ken Ludwig
It is December 1936 and Broadway star, William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, has invited his fellow cast-members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. When one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turns dangerous. Then it’s up to Gillette himself, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears. Winner of the Mystery Writers of America Edgar Award for Best Play, famed playwright Ken Ludwig’s thriller is the perfect gift for the holidays! The danger and the hilarity are non-stop in this glittering whodunit Christmas in Connecticut. This production auditions Sept 29, 30 with call backs on September 25, 2013. Production dates are November 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and December 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 2013.
The Dixie Swim Club by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, Jamie Wooten in the Beardsley Theatre
Five Southern women, whose friendship began many years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Sheree, Dinah, Lexie, Vernadette, and Jeri Neal, free from husbands, kids, and jobs, meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other's lives. The story focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of thirty-three years. As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another to get through all that life throws at them and prove the enduring power of teamwork. This production auditions Dec. 15, 16 with call backs on the December 18, 2013. Production dates are February 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, and March 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 2014.
Legally Blonde the Musical Book by Heather Hach, Music and Lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin . Harvard's beloved blonde takes the stage by pink storm in this fun, upbeat musical about self-discovery. Based on the hit movie, LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL stays true to form with a peppy score and playful book. This upbeat musical is enjoyable from start to finish and a true delight, just like our heroine, Elle, who appears to have it all until her life is turned upside-down. When her boyfriend, Warner Huntington, dumps her so he can start getting serious about his life and attend Harvard Law, Elle is determined to win him back. Elle uses her charm to get into Harvard Law herself and plans to meet up with Warner in Cambridge. While in law school, she struggles with peers, professors, and Warner Huntington. With the help of Paulette, a kind hairdresser, and Emmett, Professor Callahan's teaching assistant, though, Elle quickly realizes her potential and sets out to prove herself to her classmates and save her Delta Nu sorority sister, Brooke Wyndham, from a murder conviction. This production auditions February 9, 10 with call backs on February 12, 2014. Production dates are May 1, 2, 3, and 4, 2014.

TIME STANDS STILL by Donald Margulies
This provocative play by the famed, Pulitzer Prize-winning, playwright, Donald Margulies, focuses on Sarah and James, a photojournalist and a foreign correspondent, who are trying to adjust to a sudden change in their relationship. Sarah, who has returned home to recuperate from horrific injuries she suffered while photographing the violence in war-torn Iraq. As she struggles with the unfamiliar burden of repose, Sarah clashes with her boyfriend, James, whose anxious efforts to shield her from the bumps and bruises of recovery are exacerbated by his lingering guilt from his emotional breakdown as a reported in Iraq. James and Sarah’s long-time friend and Sarah’s editor, Richard, and his much younger girlfriend, Mandy, offer a contrasting relationship based upon easy acceptance and companionship.
